This will likely be my final post here, and I just wanted to share my thoughts about this year’s election. As good as Scott Rochatt is, he has to paraphrase, so I want to give you my full statement. As I told Scott election night:
I want to start out be thanking some people. First, I want to thank my campaign team, who put in many hours, and worked tirelessly to help get me elected. I truly appreciated your support and guidance. And of course, I want to thank all the people who contributed to my campaign, wrote letters for me, walked with me, or simply gave me words of encouragement. You guys are the best. I want to thank my family, for putting up with my absences, and for being my biggest cheerleaders. I love you all. And finally, I do want to thank all the people who called me to find out more about me, rather than labeling me. You folks are heroes too, because regardless of how you voted, you took the time out of your day to understand the person. A rare endeavor in today’s politics.
Though I am disappointed, I am absolutely proud of the campaign I ran. It was a positive campaign, and we could not have worked any harder. I did not make any promises I couldn’t keep. I didn’t cater to any special interest groups, and above all, I did not change my position on any issues through the course of the campaign. This was a campaign of integrity, and for that, I am extremely proud.
And finally, as stated in the paper, my life really hasn’t changed. I still have a good job and a great boss. I still have a lovely home, a beautiful and talented wife, and great kids. I am blessed in so many ways. And as sure as the sun will rise, I will continue volunteering my time and energy with the city and in this community, because Longmont is indeed a great place to live.
Thank you again everyone.
